Mark Bless spoke with journalist Heinz Wagner for KiJuKu about music, songwriting and his first experiences as an actor.
At just 14, Mark has already spent four years singing with the Vienna Boys’ Choir as a member of the Haydn Choir. This autumn, he will continue his education at the Polyästhetik branch of BORG Hegelgasse 12 in Vienna.
In the interview, Mark talks about his love of music, writing his own songs and stepping into acting for the first time in the musical Snow White.
Acting for the first time, writing your own songs
During a break, the question came up: how old do people think the young actor playing both the Prince and the Huntsman actually is? Without knowing beforehand, hardly anyone would guess that Mark is only 14.
He has just completed his time at the junior high school of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, where he sang in the Haydn Choir. This autumn, he will continue his education at the Polyästhetik branch of BORG Hegelgasse 12 in Vienna.

“I’ve loved music since I was very little, and I’ve listened to pretty much everything, from Michael Jackson to classical music and rock,” Mark tells KiJuKu.
He also writes his own songs, ranging from jazz to pop. Music often begins for him with a mood, an image or a melody.
“I always need something to create the right mood, whether it’s sad or happy. I usually dream of images with melodies, almost like a short film. Once I woke up in the middle of the night, at around three in the morning, got up, sat down at the piano and played the melody I had just dreamed.”
Sometimes several songs come to him within just four or five days; at other times, two months can pass without anything new being written.
One of Mark’s own songs has already been recorded by the Haydn Choir, the choir in which he sang during his four years with the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
His singing experience also led him to the musical production Snow White, where he is taking his first steps as an actor.
“Acting was completely new to me, but I quickly found my way into it. That wasn’t so difficult because it feels like a big family here. Everyone helps and supports each other. The only real challenge is that I have to change from the Huntsman into the Prince in about 30 to 40 seconds, including taking off my wig and moustache.”
