A theatrical experience in Vienna – Skakavci, a play by Biljana Srbljanović, is a witty yet bitter portrayal of family, generational relationships, and everyday life.

The Viennese audience will have the opportunity to see the play Skakavci by acclaimed Serbian playwright Biljana Srbljanović, performed by the Stanislavski Youth Theater, on May 24 and 25, 2025. The performances will take place at Theater am Werk, starting at 7:00 PM, with the premiere on May 24.

The drama portrays an urban family gathered in a living room, spanning four generations, as they await the death of the oldest family member. Through sharp and brutally honest dialogue, the play reveals deeply rooted family patterns, guilt, personal failures, and the burden of generational legacy.

A special highlight is the role of Milan, a middle-aged man, husband, and father, caught between familial duties and his own quiet inner revolt. This role is played by Marko Dimitrijević, also known artistically as Mark Bless. Although one of the youngest actors in the ensemble, Mark delivers a remarkable transformation—portraying a mature, emotionally complex character with sensitivity and depth. The role demands not only age transcendence but also the ability to convey subtle emotional shifts, which Mark achieves with striking authenticity.

Through this drama, Srbljanović reflects not only on the political and social context of post-transition Serbia but also on universal questions of identity, responsibility, and human connection—topics that resonate beyond borders.
